Whether you have planted surveillance technology to gain evidence on an unfaithful lover or voice identification, alleged threats, or another dispute altogether, the power of forensic audio enhancement cannot be underestimated. Even if what’s being said is barely audible or there’s a lot of heavy background noise so deciphering what is being said is next to impossible, the team at Melbourne Private Investigations may be able to help you.
Using state-of-the-art computer technology and critical listening techniques, we can provide an expert analysis and report on what you’ve recorded. How do we do this? Here’s a few steps to understand what goes on during a forensic audio enhancement session with our technicians.
We start with critical listening
Before we add any process to the audio, our forensic expert replays and listens through your recording multiple times. What are they looking for? They will note down any of the issues they hear with the recording and at what times it occurs.
Then we use diagnostic tools
We then begin to clean up your audio by fixing any clipping or clicking issues from the recording. At this stage, we may remove background noise before we continue with more advanced techniques.
We also use audio enhancement techniques
We use two main audio enhancement techniques in order to decipher the voices on your recording and to separate background noise:
Frequency equalisation: Perhaps one of the most helpful tools when it comes to audio enhancement, equalisation allows us to remove unwanted frequencies and different frequency ranges. This also means we can boost the desired frequencies.
Compression: As with many recordings, the overall sound may be at a low level to begin with. All that’s needed is an increase in sound. We use compressors to help raise the level of the recording overall. Furthermore, compressors can also help to balance all the signals in your recorded audio.
Once we’re satisfied with the outcome, we will create a report that details what had been said. Then, we pass this information onto you.
